Why Is My Resin Tacky? Common Resin Problems & How to Fix Them

Merchant: Maevera Pavilion • Gurugram, Haryana • Support: hello@maeverapavilion.shop

Every resin crafter hits a few frustrating issues early on. The good news? Most have simple causes and easy fixes. Here's a troubleshooting guide to the most common problems.

1. Tacky or Sticky Resin

The cause: incorrect resin-to-hardener ratio or under-mixing.

The fix: measure precisely and stir thoroughly (scraping the sides and bottom) for the full recommended time.

2. Bubbles

The cause: fast stirring or pouring, or cold resin.

The fix: stir slowly, warm the resin slightly before use, and gently pass a heat source over the surface to release bubbles after pouring.

3. Yellowing

The cause: low-quality resin or UV exposure.

The fix: use a quality, non-yellowing (UV-resistant) resin and keep finished pieces out of harsh direct sunlight.

4. Soft Spots or Uneven Curing

The cause: uneven mixing or pouring too thick in one go.

The fix: mix well and pour in layers if your project is deep, letting each layer cure.

5. Dents, Dust or Debris

The cause: an unclean or dusty environment.

The fix: work in a dust-free space and cover your piece while it cures.

6. Resin Won't Release From the Mould

The cause: incomplete cure or a low-quality mould.

The fix: wait for the full cure time and use quality silicone moulds that flex easily.

Golden Rules

  • Measure precisely, every time.
  • Stir slowly and thoroughly.
  • Be patient with the cure.
